Whispers - And The Beat Goes On (1980)

"And the Beat Goes On" is a 1980 single by the Los Angeles-based quintet, The Whispers. The song was their first of two number-one singles on the R&B chart, and their first Top 40 pop hit in the United States, peaking at number nineteen."And the Beat Goes On" was The Whispers only number one on the dance chart. It was also their first and biggest hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart. Formed in 1964, Whispers had to wait until 1980 before this became their first Top 20 hit in the UK and US. This remained their biggest hit in the UK but in the US 1987's "Rock Steady" had a better chart placing peaking at #7.




Will Smith used a sample of the song for his 1998 hit single, "Miami". Madonna also samples parts of this song during her performance of, "Beat Goes On" on her 2008-2009 Sticky & Sweet Tour. The song is featured in the videogame Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
