I Turn to You" is the fourth single from Melanie C's first solo album, Northern Star. It was released on August 7, 2000 in the U.K and became Melanie's second UK number-one single. It sold 120,000 copies in its first week, altogether selling 360,477 copies, making it the twenty-seventh best seller of 2000. "I Turn to You" also topped the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart for the week of November 11. The main single was released as the "Hex Hector Radio Mix", for which Hex Hector won the 2000 Grammy as Remixer of the Year.
With "I Turn To You", Melanie achieved her tenth #1 UK single as a songwriter, equaling the record set by former bandmate Geri Halliwell. With "Holler", the Spice Girls' final UK #1, Melanie became the only female songwriter to write and/or co-write 11 #1 UK singles. Melanie held this record until Madonna achieved her eleventh #1 with "Hung Up" in 2005, and then lost it when Madonna achieved her twelfth #1 with "Sorry" in 2006.
This song was featured in the film Bend It Like Beckham, where it gained popularity, and was covered by the metal band Machinae Supremacy in their Webography and also by the rock band Wig Wam on their 2004 album, 667...The Neighbour of the Beast.
"I Turn to You" eventually became part of the set list for the Spice Girls Reunion Tour.
In addition, this single's #1 peak marked Chisholm as the only female solo artist in the UK to top the charts again after having previously done so as part of a quintet, part of a quartet, and part of a duo. (source : wikipedia)
