They have been releasing house records under this name since 1997 and in 2006 they reached number 1 on both the dance chart and indie chart with their track "The Cure & the Cause". Santessa - Just When I Needed You (1999)

From 1999 Bobby Shaw from New York City turned me on to this band. Sexy Sade style vocals and beats , very similar to Blue 6 or Ananda Project tracks. The whole LP was genius. Very rare, I dont even own a copy of the vinyl LP. This is very deep. Very Ibiza or Benidorm or Rio or anywhere  theres a beach.
Santessa's debut album DELIRIUM, produced by Stuart Matthewman, (Sade, Maxwell, Sweetback) released through Sony UK in 2000, was critically acclaimed across the board. It has gone on to become a highly sought after collectors item worldwide.

Born on the Isle of Man,; Her mother is half English, half Ghanaian, and her father hails from Ireland.
She began joining bands, forming a few of her own, trying on different music styles; funk, rock, folk, whatever people around her wanted to play, but finding none that fitted comfortably. Supporting herself with a job in a casino, she took singing classes, studied drama and dance, listened to rare groove and R&B in the clubs, to the bass-heavy dub of Jah Shaka at sound system clashes, to reggae songs by Gregory Isaacs, Black Uhuru, Steel Pulse and David Bowie.
Influenced by the sound of Bristol and Bjork she began writing her own material. Meeting Stuart Matthewman of Sade led to the 2000 release of “Delirium” on Sony. In in a style reminiscent of Portishead and Sweetback, Santessa combined trip-hop, downtempo, and 70’s soul to create a sound both new and familiar. This song was off that fantastic album.

Coldplay - Clocks (Illicit White Label Bootleg Mix) (2004)

"Clocks" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay.  Several remixes of the track exist and its riff has been widely  sampled . "Clocks" won Record Of The Year at the 2004 Grammy Awards and, to date, is one of Coldplay's most successful songs.
The single was successful on the radio throughout in 2003, and has charted at several singles chart worldwide. In the United Kingdom, the song has peaked at number nine. In the United States, "Clocks" has peaked there at number 29.It has also reached number seven in Canada. Although it wasn't as successful as expected in Australia (charting at #28), it did get a lot of radio play.
And of all the remixes that came out, the Illicit Bootleg was the biggest in and around New York. The trance clubs played trance mixes of course.  But in a house set the Illicit was the one.

Jody Watley - Don't You Want Me (1987)

"Don't You Want Me" is the third single from singer Jody Watley's eponymous debut album. The song was produced by Bernard Edwards of Chic-fame.

Watley's previous single, "Still a Thrill," fared well in dance and R&B markets, but less-so in the mainstream. This prompted her label, MCA, to go in a more pop-friendly direction. "Don't You Want Me" was one of the biggest crossover singles for the year 1987, reaching top ten on the Billboard pop and R&B charts and becoming a number-one dance club hit.
Don't You Want Me" landed in the Top 40 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart the week of October 24, 1987, advancing from #56 to #40. The song would go on to peak at #6 on the Hot 100 and would (beginning December 19, 1987), remain there for three consecutive weeks.

Gino's third biggest hit "It's Alright"/"Look At Yourself" from his mega album "Face to Face" reached #2 for 5 weeks also on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. He also assembled and produced the disco studio group Witch Queen, best known for their Top 10 dance hit "Bang A Gong" / "All Right Now" in 1979. While it may not have topped the charts the song "Remember" was a NYC club favourite in the 80s.

Criminal Element Orchestra - Put The Needle To The Record (1987)

From Criminal Records New york back towards the beginning of house music, this Wally Jump Jr production is smokin' breakbeat. A well known hit off Arthur Bakers label, this song was not played at a lot of places, it wasnt quite house...not electro or freestyle. More like fast mininal hip hop, I only played it for years with hop hop. Until I rediscovered it within a house set. And it worked. And it works clearly with breakbeat. And techno. And even rock. And it definitly doesnt sound like its from 1987. Its way too fresh sounding.

Stunt - Raindrops (2004)

This song , featuring Sash (sample from Encore En Fois barrelled thru the Stunt song) was huge in vocal trance sets the summer it was out. Househeads I'm sure would find it cheesy, too commercial. Even some tranceheads would consider this a tad too commercial I'm sure. But the song worked like hell in energy sets, always packing the floor.

Sunloverz - Summer Of Love (2008)

From 2008 on Lickin' Records Germany comes this song, one of my more recent favorite dance tunes. i played this thru the summer of 2009, right after my divorce and my move out of cold Connecticut to tropical Miami metro. This song was truely uplifting, when I needed it. it was summery, kinda reggaeish, and just a feel good song. The Ian Carey mix did it for me...i played this song at one club several times in a four hour set. Just so I could hear it. It was my first summer alone since almost two decades of marriage...and my own Summer Of Love.

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (1984)

West End Girls" is a song by British pop duo Pet Shop Boys. Written by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, the song was released twice as a single. It is a synthpop song, influenced by hip hop music. The lyrics focus on class, and inner-city pressure, and were inspired by T.S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land. It was generally well received by contemporary music critics and has been frequently cited as a highlight in the duo's career.
The first version of the song was produced by Bobby Orlando and was released on his label in the United States in April 1984, becoming a club hit in the there and some European countries. After the duo signed with EMI, the song was re-recorded with producer Stephen Hague, for their first studio album, Please. The group then released their first major label single "Opportunities (Lets Make Lots Of Money)", but it failed to attract attention. The Pet Shop Boys then decided to release "West End Girls" for the second time. Producer Steven Hague then reworked the song and the single was re-released in late 1985,  reaching number one in the United Kingdom and the United States in 1986. In 1987, the song won for Best Single at The BRIT Awards, and Best International Hit at the Ivor Novello Awards. In Canada, "West End Girls" first entered the RPM singles chart in April 1985, reaching a peak position of 81 in June 1985. In March 1986, the song re-entered the chart, peaking at number one for one week on 17 May 1986. In the United States, "West End Girls" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100at number 71, reaching the number one position on 10 May 1986, and remained on the chart for 20 weeks. The song also peaked at number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart for two weeks.
In 2005, 20 years later after its release, the song was awarded Song of The Decade between the years 1985 and 1994, by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. A cover was released by East 17 in 1993.

Lipps Inc. - Funky Town (1980)

"Funkytown" is a song performed by the funk band Lipps Inc. Released in 1980, the song expresses the singer's pining for a metaphorical place that will "keep me movin', keeps me groovin' with some energy". It reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts in 1980, also reaching number 1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and The Netherlands. It reached No. 2 in the UK,Sweden and on the U.S. R&B chart. "Funkytown" is often considered to be one of disco's last stands. It was Lipps Inc's only U.S. Top 40 hit.
In 1995, it was covered by late Tejano singer Selena  during her last televised concert before she was brutally murdered by her fan club president. The song was later released on the movie soundtrack.

Voyage - Souvenirs (1978)

Voyage was a European disco group, consisting of lead vocalist Sylvia Mason-James, along with Slim Pezin (guitar/vocals), Marc Chantereau (keyboards/vocals), Sauveur Mallia (bass) and Pierre-Alain Dahan (drums/vocals).

Their lone Billboard Hot 100 entry was "Souvenirs," which hit number forty-one in 1979. They had more success on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, where two of their albums, Voyage (1978) and Fly Away (1979), hit number one.
In the UK, the group had three chart singles. A double A-side, "From East To West" / "Scotch Machine" (the latter song retitled "Scots Machine" because the term "Scotch" is generally considered offensive in Scotland) reached number thirteen in 1978, while later that same year "Souvenirs" made number fifty-six.Their last impact on the charts came in 1979 when "Let's Fly Away" peaked at number thirty-eight.
I first heard this song when I had the 2 record set A Night At Studio 54.  This song was one of the best tracks on a fantastic LP...and remains one of the best disco songs of all time.

Blaze - If You Should Need A Friend (1987)

Deep vocal house from Jersey...this Blaze track, one of their first releases, sold mega copies when it came out on New Yorks Quark Records. Fantastic vocal, the dub was played forever at New Yorks Paradise Garage and other real house nightclubs. The vocal fluffy crowd may not have dug this deep track, but in the UK they ate this import up. Still sounds fabulous. LOUD.

From deep in the twelfth summer of love in the UK (1988)..the acid house craze was starting to wind down at that time. But the house crowd, hugely hungry for new fresh beats, easily gravitated to this fusion of reggae/ska and acid house . released in the US on Warlock Records (home to similar sounding Voodoo Ray by A Guy Called Gerald) ..when it came out in the US with its deep Tony Humphries mixes it crossed over from deep house to deeper house. Huge in its day.

PM Dawn - Watcher's Point of View (Todd Terry Mix) (1991)

"A Watcher's Point of View (Don't 'Cha Think)" is a single by P.M. Dawn that peaked at # 44 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1991. Song writing credit is given to Attrell Cordes (Prince Be of P.M. Dawn) and Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers as the song contains a sample of the Doobie Brothers' "Feelin' Down Farther."

It is from their debut album, Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience. Todd Terry's "Hard House Mix" appeared on their 2000 compilation, The Best of P.M. Dawn. The song references "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and performed by The Monkees in 1967.

Garys Gang - Keep On Dancin ' (1979)

Gary's Gang was a funk/soul/R&B/disco group who just missed having a U.S. Top 40 hit, when their lone Billboard Hot 100 entry, "Keep on Dancin'", reached #41 in 1978. The song climbed to #8 in the UK Singles Chart, #14 on the Hot Soul Singles chart in 1978. and also made #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, as did two of the group's other songs: "Do It At the Disco" and "Let's Lovedance Tonight". The latter was later used as the sampling background track to Soulsearcher's 1999 #20 Club Play hit, "Can't Get Enough".

In the 1980s Gary's Gang also enjoyed further U.S. and European success with the 1982 single "Knock Me Out" (#45 UK) and the 1983 hit "Makin' Music", which reached #8 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Gary's Gang was the brainchild of Joseph Tucci, who put the group together when he sold "Keep on Dancin" to Sam Records in Long Island City NY. The song was written, produced and recorded in Joe's Richmond Hill garage. All vocals were sung by Joseph Tucci, who also played all the instruments except for the drums which were played by Gary Turnier. After shopping the song to all major labels for several weeks, a record deal seemed elusive, the majors had all declined. Sam Records in Long Island City NY, picked up the record and to their total surprise was an instant club hit. Sam Weiss sold the record to Columbia Records a few months later, the rest is history.
The group, based in Queens, New York, consisted of Gary Turnier, Eric Matthew AKA Joseph Tucci, Al Lauricella, Rino Minetti, Bill Catalano, Bob Forman and Jay Leon.

Voices In The Dark - Keep It Warm (1987)

From New Yorks Next Plateau Records, this deep house Paradise/NYC classic was re-done in 1991 by Jinny into an international hit, fueled by huge European chart numbers. Huge in Italy where it first came out, it also broke big in the United States. But B4 the Jinny version even came to be, New Yorkers and US Vocal house and pre-house affectionado's were already groovin' to this classic.

Lectroluv - Dream Drums (1999)

On Eightball Records US...produced by Frederick Jorio and in the US released as a 2 X 12' , its the Junior Vasquez mix that put this over the top to make this list. Heavily requested all over the east coast of the US (i can bet on that) and just generally huge for a long time, this is a must for any classic late 90's house music list. It must have been my numer one record for months, despite my resistance to it ( i resisted a lot of the long involved Junior Vasquez mixes, but my Southern Connecticut New York centric crowd insisted. )

This groovy Sound Facory (nightclub) track  tore up dancefloors in gay clubs and huge house music nightclubs in the US when released in 1999. There were few songs as hot at the time.  This track exzemplified New York City and its nightclubs. Still a New York City metro classic.  Did I mention New York ? There was a whole sound based on the kind of beat in the junior Vasquez mix of this track...kinda like Get Your Hands off Of My Man by Junior....almost like commercial wildpitch sounding. Junior had at the time a signiture sound, this record was one of his most popular - and best - remixes.

Carlton - Do You Dream (1990)

Deep vocal UK house , sounding more like a deep Detroit classic in this original mix. AKA this video clip. Off FFRR Records UK, this song was pretty big in the UK on it's release , and huge on more sophisticated house dancefloors in 1990-1991.

Sister Sledge - He's The Greatest dancer (1976)

"He's the Greatest Dancer" is a disco song written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers and recorded by Sister Sledge for their 1979 breakout album We Are Family (1979).

"He's the Greatest Dancer" was sampled by Will Smith in his 1998 number one hit single Gettin' Jiggy Wit It. In 2000 DJ Tony Touch recorded a version of the song, entitled I Wonder Why? (He's The Greatest DJ) with lyrics sung by Keisha Spivey and Pam Long of R&B girl group Total. The song was recorded and released by Dannii Minogue in 2007 and was an international Top 40 hit.

Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers ,who produced the We Are Family album for Sister Sledge, originally formulated all its songs with the group in mind envisioning the title cut as the lead single. When Atlantic Records wanted a more overtly disco song Edwards and Rodgers gave Sister Sledge "He's the Greatest Dancer" originally intended for Chic.

Nile Rodgers recalled Sister Sledge being "furious" at being asked to sing the lyric "My crĂšme de la crĂšme please take me home" - "to them that [line] made them seem like loose women" - and suggested a lyric adjustment to "My crĂšme de la crĂšme, please don't go home." Rodgers says he and Edwards refused to change the lyric "because we knew the world that we were writing about obviously more than [Sister Sledge] did because they had never even been in a disco...He ain't going to go home because [he is] the greatest dancer...he's gonna stay there longer than you".
"He's the Greatest Dancer" was released as the lead single from We Are Family at the end of 1978 crossing over from the clubs - its 12" version was shared by the "We Are Family" and "Lost in Music" tracks" - to R&B radio giving Sister Sledge a number one hit on both Billboard's Dance and R&B charts in March 1979. "He's the Greatest Dancer" reached number nine on the Hot 100 in May; it might have risen higher but that same month Atlantic Records prompted by the overwhelming club response to "We Are Family" sent the last-named track to radio.
"He's the Greatest Dancer" was also a hit in Australia (#22), the Netherlands (#18) and the UK (#6).

John Creamer & Stephane K - I Wish You Were Here (2002)

I find/found this record to be amazing. Its total deep tribal house, yet somewhat of a trance classic. IE it trancends genres, my favorite kind of dance music. this song PACKED my floors when it was new, and today remains one of my all time favorites. David Guetta - Love Don't Let Me Go ( 2002)

This was David Guetta's second big hit in the US. His first was 'Just A Little More Love, which topped many dance charts. This track....Love Don't Let Me Go...was re-mixed and re-released in Europe as David Guetta vs The Egg in a mashup release, and topped the charts AS WELL. After his second smash in a row it's been nothing but superstar for Guetta. But this, his second release, only solidified that.

Joey Beltram - Energy Flash (1990)

Joey Beltram (born November 6, 1971 in Queens, New York City, New York, USA) is an American DJ and record producer, best-known for the pioneering house music recordings Energy Flash and Mentasm.

Mentasm, coproduced with Mundo Muzique, became iconic within rave culture, as it was the track that gave birth to the "mentasm riff" (also known as the "Hoover sound"): a churning, dirgelike synth pattern that wormed into techno's communal genome and has since been mutated and reused in literally thousands of records. It was pre-empted to an extent by Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva in their Cybersonik project; although Hawtin, in response, made sure to answer Beltram's seminal Energy Flash (1990) in return with Substance Abuse (1991). Beltram and the "mentasm riff" are strongly associated with Drum & Bass, the Belgian techno scene, and the R&S record label, as well as hardcore/hard house in their various permutations since 1994.

The Fifth Dimension - Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine- Jonathan Peters Remix (1997)

I bought this on a rare vinyl copy. This mix is incredible. There has been countless other mixes by other remixers to surface, some damn good. Most maybe even.  Dare I say. But this remix by Jonathan Peters (for DMC UK Remix Service (Remix Culture # 177 Oct 1997) stands out as one of the best mixes of a very classic and very popular tune....of all time. JP's mix , with the same fantastic buildup as his remix of White Rabbitt or Hooked On A feeling ...this record always packed my floor. Old as time yet the song still packs the floor.

Dennis Ferrer & Jerome Sydenham - Sandcastles (2004)

very underground vocal classic. Why this song wasn't more well known is beyond me, but thats a good thing I guess. That makes it more underground. If you already know the song you know how GOOD it is, and you know how much of a classic it is. From 2004. Deep Body and Soul/Shelter style.
