Tom Tom Club - Suboceana (1988)

Tom Tom Club made a brief comeback with this deep house classic, in reference to the Marshall Jefferson Mix. Sounding very similar to 'Baby Want To Ride ; but deeper and with lots of bongos, his mix stood out as quality house and superior post production. Also came with Magic Juan Atkins Detroit style mixes.

Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid (1988)

R&B /new jack swing pop song that was cutting edge, and everybody could relate to it. Still a classic that everybody knows and loves, if you like pop. You can remix it ti death, the original will always be the best version.

Nocera - Summertime Summertime (1986)

Freestyle classic from Sleeping Bag Records, big with the pre-house crowd that eventually gravitated towards house. Big in New York at 10-18 and similar large freestyle clubs. Produced by Mantronix , its kinda pre electro , quality freestyle along the lines of Joyce Sims or Shannon. You can still hear it in New York on the radio often.

Will Downing - A Love Supreme (1988)

Originally done by John Coltrane, this classic deep house male vocal classic was released on Island Records. Produced by Arthur Baker and Mr Downing and mixed by Def Mix (Frankie Knuckles and David Morales)....the jazz house mix was the best. Almost like pre-Robert Owens, but Will Downing sounds a lot like Luther Vandross. Probably too deep for most DJs now, or just uptempo lounge music.Even though its house. And good house.

Bacon Popper - Free (1998)

Progressive European house track that samples U2 'New years Day' ...very euro sounding, not deep at all, not a commercial track, not trance, not electro, not techno....an aquired taste. kinda like DJ Jean or similar German tracks. Love the 'Your just a bunch of freaks' vocal line. Sounds pretty damn good today though...

Deborah Cox - Things Just Aint The Same (1997)

Not even released on a Deborah Cox album, it was on the 'Money Talks' soundtrack as an R&B single, but Hex Hector turned out a club anthem that was massive. Radio played his edit, it went # 1 in all kinds of places and charts, and is still a dancefloor favorite right up there with Whitney Houstons 'Its Not Right But Its OK'. very commercial, but very good R&B flavored house. I usually dont like the diva stuff, in fact i had so so many requests for this for so long i coudnt even listen to it for years. But it is a classic nonetheless.

Taste-T-Lips - Hypnotize (1988)

Freestyle commercial house from 1988, too underground for mainstream clubs but it sounded great with underground house music DJ's looking for vocals. I heard it often at Traxx New York City, either David DePino played it or Danny Krivit...or both. Pretty sure i heard David Morales play it at Red Zone as well. DJs with good taste played it. It was the groups only release

Willie Wonka - What Is House (1986)

Classic Chicago house produced by Mickey Oliver and released on Trax Records, obscure and very underground. This is true house music, the way it started before it became general club music. Raw, fresh (still 25 years later!) and different.

B52's - Planet Claire (1979)

"Planet Claire" is the second single released by The B-52's from their self-titled debut album The B-52's. The single was their second single to chart anywhere, at #43 in Australia and #24 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, along with album tracks "Rock Lobster" and "Dance This Mess Around". The song bears somewhat of a resemblance to the Peter Gunn television show theme, and also to Devo's adaptation of the theme. "Planet Claire" was also later covered by Foo Fighters. Fred Schneider also did the vocals on their cover.

Screamin' Rachael - Fun With Bad Boys (1987)

Obscure early Chicago house from house diva Screamin' Rachael, it was the only release on Grand Hip House Groove records US. Sounds like a Blondie record to me, its really a fun postitive groovy record. Its gotta be rare on vinyl....the best mix is the Farley Jackmaster Funk mix.

Ministry -Work For Love (1983)

Ministry was an American industrial metal band founded by Al Jourgenson in 1981. Originally a synthpop outfit, Ministry changed its style to industrial metal in the late 1980s. Ministry found mainstream success in the early 1990s with its most successful album Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs (1992) and touring as part of the Lollapalooza festival. After 27 years of performing, Al Jourgensen decided to retire the band as of 2008. Their forst single, Work For Love, achieved moderate success in New Wave sets and alternative nightclubs. A classic indeed.

Dread Flimstone - From The Ghetto (1991)

Somewhat forgotten reggae house track from Scotti Bros. Records in the US, made popular by the hot Danny Tenaglia remix, one of his early mixes before he was a superstar DJ producer. Its a superb piece of house music , very deep yet kinda spacey. A sound ahead of its time, it would work even today in any deep house set.

Till West & DJ Delicious - For The Same Man (2006)

I at one point worshiped DJ Delicious. He put out banging track after banging track. This one was on of my favorites, and it was a pretty big club record overall in 2006. A hot electro house remake of an old disco electro tune...B-Beat Girls 'For The Same Man ' . In the US it came out on Ultra records (of course) , and a slew of other labels throughout Europe. DJ Delicious is the head of Phunkwerk Records based in Cologne Germany.

Black And White Brothers - Put Your Hands Up In The Air (1998)

Produced by Djaimin and made more well known by Danzels use of the vocal sample in his hit 'Put Your Hands Up'....this was a moderate club hit in the US, a tad bit more popular overseas. The DJ Tonka mix was the best, it had a good groove that worked well with the vocal. The inclusion of an accapella on the 12" was a great idea. (hence...Danzel)

Big Muff - My Funny Valentine (1998)

Released on Smile Records UK and Maxi records in the US, this hot vocal remake of the jazz classic is very deep, particularly the Francois K and Matthias Heilbronn Body and Soul Mix. I always play this in February...(for Valentines Day). The LP mix is downtempo, in true Big Muff style.

The Stone Roses - Fools Gold (1989)

"Fools Gold/What the World Is Waiting For" is a non-album double A-side by The Stone Roses. It was released in the UK, U.S., Australia, Germany, Japan, and Spain. "Fools Gold" and "What the World Is Waiting For" are also available on the compilation Turns Into Stone. "Fools Gold" is also available as the final track on the US release of The Stone Roses self-titled LP, as well as the Very Best of The Stone Roses compilation.

"Fools Gold" became the band's biggest commercial hit at the time. It was their first single to reach the top ten of the UK Singles Chart and stayed in the Top 75 for fourteen weeks, peaking at number eight

The dance-oriented song showcased the rhythm section of Mani on bass and Reni on percussion. The main drum beat is a one-bar loop originally taken from "Hot Pants - I'm Coming, I'm Coming, I'm Coming" sung by Bobby Byrd with John "Jabo" Starks on drums and produced James Brown , Brownstone Records 1972.

In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Fools Gold" at number 32 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.

Australian radio station Triple J voted "Fools Gold" number 76 in its Triple J Hottest 100 of all time in July 2009.
Run-D.M.C. sampled the bassline and drum beat of "Fools Gold" for their hit "What's It All About?" in 1990.

"Fools Gold" was "mashed-up" with "If Your Girl Only Knew" by Aaliyah for the bootleg "If Only Your Girlfriend Was Stoned"
A "Fools Gold" sample is used in the 1990 Bananarama song "Only Your Love".
The song has been remixed since by Rabbit In The Moon, Grooverider, Tall Paul, and others, the original remains the best.

Ben Shaw - So Strong (2000)

Deep hard house. I have always loved the HARD DEEP shit. This was a very popular track everywhere, i bought my copy at Satillite Records in NYC. Standing next to Jonathan Peters I will add, for whatever thats worth. I loved Sander Kleinenbergs mix, a hard deep vocal workout that was for sophisticated ears....if u liked hard it was too deep, if u liked deep it was too hard. Also had Soul Mekanik mix and Cass and Slide mix. For Sound Factory fans.....the second one...where Peters played his amazing sets to an amazing crowd.

Thick Dick - Touch The Sky (2003)

One of many aliases of (Eric) E-Smoove from Chicago, this vocal deep house classic reminded me an awful lot of the Maxi Records (US) (FFRR in the UK) 'Helpless' by Urbanized....a fierce male vocal with deep groovy beats that stood out in a set. One of my all time favorites.

Eric Kupper / K-Scope 3 EP - Latin Blues (1998)

Excellent tribal piano laden track by Eric Kupper, released in 1999 on Twisted Records US, the EP was one of 4 in the series. This track I played for years, always sounded great and always will. A true classic, a must have for any DJ into quality deep house. No vocals, just a fantastic groove that will make your night. I love hearing this.

Clubhouse - Deep In My Heart (1991)

Huge worldwide hit in 1991, released on Atlantic Records in the US on a 2X12" doublepak and promoted to good effect....fantastic male vocal, the original Italian mix was the best , the US release had David Morales (keyboards by Eric Kupper) mixes and DJ Professer mixes.  Redone well in 2006 by T-Street.

Beestings - Running Away (2006)

This record/cd/track never officially came out. Its a really good vocal track, on a bootleg vinyl 12" with a Coldplay 'God Put A Smile On Your Face ' remix on the flip. I know very little about it except that its really really good, and no-one really knows about it.

68 Beats - Replay The Night (2007)

Written and produced by Miami bred Robbie Rivera and released on his label in the US Juicy Records, this vocal club record packed a punch. Not very well known, it should have been HUGE. I played the ridiculously fantastic Gabriel & Dresden vocal mix. Always packed my dancefloor, even though it wasnt very well known among the clubgoing masses.

Intenso Project - Luv Da Sunshine (2002)

Reggae house classic from 2002, very rare and not well known unless you really knew your underground house in 2002...I knew it initially from a Promo Only underground series CD. Always packed my dancefloor....a really great track if you ask me. Ended up on Inferno Records UK and Jive Netherlands, and other labels. Dunno why the major labels in the US didnt pick it up.

Tremendo - Walk, Watch, Drink (2003)

Huge deep house hit from Subliminal Records in 2003, produced by David Mereu and Giuseppe Calabro. Dunno what that vocal comes from, its fantastic though. A 'diva' inspired drinking girls club track, this song set dancefloors afire in early 2003. It remeins as fresh as ever, though house music this good is usually an aquired taste.

Par-T-One - I'm So Crazy (2001)

Its actually Par-T-One vs INXS, with a killer beat and the timing of this track was perfect, during Subliminals best era....the early 2000's. (though theyre always good.) With its ' Just Keep Walking' INXS sample , and a Dennis Parker ' Like An Eagle' sample , the song rocked dancefloors worldwide, with typical clubgoers not having a clue who the artist was and hungry to find out. That translated into sales for Subliminal records US and Creedence UK.

Kym Mazelle - Was That All It Was (1989)

Originally done by Jean Carn in 1979 as a disco hit on Philladelphia International Records, Kym Mazelle recorded her house version and released it in the UK first in 1989. It was released as well in the US on Syncopate Records, produced by Marshall Jefferson and remixed by David Morales. (Hannah Jones remade the track again in 1999). Kym Mazelles first release was the brilliant 'Taste My Love' on Police Records, another Marshall Jefferson production , in 1987.

Teena Marie - Lovergirl (1984)

After leaving Motown in 1982, Teena Marie signed with Epic Records in 1983 and released the concept album Robbery, which featured the hit "Fix It" (#21 R&B), as well as "Shadow Boxing" and "Casanova Brown." The latter was one of a number of tracks Marie would write over the years about her real-life romance with one-time mentor Rick James. The relationship had ended by that point, but the two would continue a sometimes tempestuous friendship, until James's death in August 2004. In 1984, Marie released her biggest-selling album, Starchild It yielded the hit single "Lovergirl", which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart  in March, 1985 and at #9 on the R&B chart.

The Children - Freedom (1988)

Produced by Adonis (No Way Back) with vocals by Jamie Christopher, this acid house classic was WAY underground, even Chicago house heads like myself resisted this for a long time, it wasnt deep, nor hard. But with killer vocals (great lyrics, simple yet effective, like house is.....er....was.) Released on DJ International Records. Not a big hit. But a great classic nonetheless...

Chocolette - A Little Bit Of Lovin' (1989)

Killer bassline....I remember hearing this at every club in New york City in 1989-1990. Bassline (Junior Vasquez)...Traxx (David Depino and/or Danny Krivit)...Red Zone, The Choice...every major DJ at every major club was playing this monster house hit. particularly the dub, though the vocal was fabulous too. Produced by Eugene Bussey and remixed by Bussey and Chip Nunez.

Dee Holloway - Our Love (It's Over) (1989)

Produced by fantastic producer remixer george morel, this early New York garage vocal track was quite big for me personally, i played it to DEATH ! both the dub and the vocal, but you HAD to play the fantastic vocal. Energetic, lots of feeling. It drew you to the dancefloor, this song. I'm suprised it wasn't a bigger hit, it had all the right elements of a Loleatta Holloway (no relation) style track.

Cheryl Lynn - Shake It Up Tonight (1981)

Lynda Cheryl Smith (born March 11, 1957), better known by her professional name Cheryl Lynn, is a disco, R&B and soul singer best known for her 1978 disco classic, "Got to Be Real".
Discovered on the Gong Show by producer Bob Johnston. Lynn was signed to Columbia after Ahmed Ertegun from Atlantic couldn't make their initial meeting. After Johnston threatened to camp outside David Paich's home if he didn't work with Lynn, Johnston and Paich started on the project after signing with Columbia Records. Lynn released her first and biggest hit, "Got to Be Real," which was penned by Toto keyboardist David Paich, David Foster and Lynn. The song peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #1 on the R&B chart. The success of the single prompted a full scale debut album. Titled Cheryl Lynn, it was produced by Paich. The album sold over a million copies and peaked at #5 on Billboard's R&B albums chart and #23 on Billboard's top 200 album charts. The follow-up single, "Star Love"', also became a hit.

During Lynn's debut album's run, members of the rock group Toto were putting together their debut album. During the production Lynn was asked to provided the female backing vocal on the single, "Georgy Porgy,". The single peaked at #48 on Billboard's Pop charts. Although Toto would go on to chart more than a dozen pop hits throughout the years, it was Lynn's vocal on "Georgy Porgy" that aided the group in charting their only R&B (#18) and Dance (#80) hit on the Billboard charts.

In 1981, Ray Parker, Jr. produced "Shake It Up Tonight", a major club R&B hit from Lynn's third album, In the Night. The following year, Luther Vandross was called on to produced Lynn's fourth album, Instant Love. The 2nd single off the album, "If This World Were Mine" - a 1982 duet with Luther Vandross that covered a Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell song, has become an urban contemporary classic. For her fifth album, Preppie, Lynn produced most of the tracks with the exception of the single "Encore" (#1 R&B hit) - which was written and produced by the Minneapolis funk duo, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. It became Lynn's second #1 single. In 1989, Lynn released the top 10 single, "Every Time I Try To Say Goodbye", from her eighth album, Whatever It Takes.

Barbara Mason - Another Man (1983)

Barbara Mason (born 9 August 1947, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American R&B/soul singer best known for her 1965 hit song, "Yes, I'm Ready".

She had her first hit single in 1965 with her self-penned Top 10 hit, "Yes, I'm Ready" (number five pop, number two R&B), a bubbly soul-pop hit that spotlighted her high, girlish vocals. One of the first examples of the sweet, lush sound that came to be called Philly soul, she had modest success throughout the rest of the decade on the small Arctic label, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 again in 1965 with "Sad, Sad Girl", and "Oh How It Hurts" in 1967-68.

In the early and mid 1970s, Mason toughened her persona considerably, singing about sexual love and infidelity with a frankness that was uncommon for a female soul singer in songs like "Bed and Board," "From His Woman to You," and "Shackin' Up." But the production, as it was throughout soul in the '70s, was more funk-oriented, and at times Mason would interrupt her singing to deliver some straight-talkin' raps about romance. Curtis Mayfield produced her on a cover version of Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love," which restored her to the pop Top 40 and R&B Top Ten in 1973; "From His Woman to You" (the response to Shirley Brown's single "Woman to Woman") and "Shackin' Up" were also solid soul sellers in the mid '70s. After leaving Buddah Records in 1975, she only dented the charts periodically, with "I Am Your Woman, She Is Your Wife" (1978), "Another Man" (1983), and a couple of other singles. 'Another Man' , while only barely hitting the pop charts, made a considerable inpact on the dancefloor. Released on West End records and championed by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage, the song had a fat bassline and uncommon lyrics about a man cheating on her with his gay boyfriend.  The song to this day continues to be played in nightclubs and R&B stations worldwide.

Fat Larrys Band - Act Like You Know (1982)

Fat Larry's Band was an American R&B/funk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who enjoyed some commercial success in the early 1980s.
Formed by drummer and vocalist "Fat" Larry James (August 2, 1949 - December 5, 1987) in 1977, band members included trumpeter/flutist Art Capehart, saxophonist Doug Jones, trombonist/alto saxophonist Jimmy Lee, guitarist Ted Cohen, percussionist and lead singer Darryl Grant, bassist Larry La Bes, and keyboardist Erskine Williams. The band's biggest hits were "Act Like You Know" (1982) (which later appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) and "Zoom", which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in October 1982. They had three other hits in the UK: "Center City", "Boogie Town" and "Looking for Love Tonight".

James also played with The Delfonics and Blue Magic, and managed the group Slick.
James died from a heart attack, at the age of 38, on December 5, 1987, and the band folded.
The opening drum break from "Down on the Avenue", from the band's first album, Feel It (Stax 1977), has been sampled by many hip hop artists, including N.W.A (Straight Outta Compton), Ice-T, Jungle Brothers and Run-D.M.C.
I also sampled 'Act Like you Know' for my Downstream Mix of Deep Forest's 'Sweet Lullaby' , which came out on Epic Records in the US. (it was on the commercially avaliable vinyl 12" and CD single, and the promotional 2X 12' vinyl.

Lost Witness - Red Sun Rising (1999)

Lost Witness is an English trance production and DJ , composed of Simon Paul (also known as Si Paul) . Also part of the collaboration are songwriter Edward Barton, writer of the 1983 Jane & Barton single, "It's a Fine Day" (later covered by Opus III in 1992), as well as vocalist Danielle Alexander.

Paul also recorded under the aliases Dusk Til Dawn and The Eden Project.
A number of their singles were released on major electronic dance label Ministry of Sound. Some included remixes by English producer and DJ Lange.
While I'm not a huge fan of trance, rhis uplifting vocal trance classic is beautiful, its moving , and well known among tranceheads. Classic.

L'Il Louis - I Called You (1989)

Eclectic and sounding like nothing else, this dancefloor packed worked well with only really underground nightclub DJ's. With a great intro and fantastic accalella , it was very deep. Off his brilliant 1989 LP 'From The Mind Of L'Il Louis, and a follow up to the HUGE smash 'French Kiss' , this track did particularly well in the UK.

Living Colour - Elvis Is Dead (1990)

"Elvis Is Dead" is a song by Living Colour featuring Little Richard off the album Time's Up. Before, during, and after Little Richard's spoken-word performance, many voices speak the song title, concluded by one announcing, "Elvis has left the building!" After, the band twisted the line "Maybe I've a reason to believe we all will be received in Graceland" from Paul Simon's "Graceland" to yield the refrain, "I've got a reason to believe we all won't be received at Graceland." They also quote Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" in stating, "Elvis was a hero to most," but diverge in adding, "But that's beside the point."

The 12" had 'Elvis Is Dead ' as the B-Side to the single ' Love Rears It's Ugly Head'. 'Elvis Is Dead remixes were done by Zanzibar DJ and worldwide house legend Tony Humphries. They were smooth and groovy, not as edgy as you would expect from a Living Colour remix, but the remix worded big-time.

"Sunglasses at Night" is a song recorded by Canadian singer Corey Hart. It was the first single to be released off his debut album, 1984's First Offense, and became a hit single in the United States, rising to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1984. The song is considered by many to be a classic of 1980s pop rock and New Wave music, combining an unflagging synthesizer hook, characteristic arpeggio, rock guitar, obscure lyrics and a punk undercurrent throughout the song.

The song is included in numerous hits collections of the period, especially in the U.S., but it was not as popular throughout the rest of the world at the time. Peaking at #24 in Hart's native Canada, it was not a hit in Europe and failed to chart at all in the UK.
In 2002, 19 years after the original version release, the song was re-recorded, with Original 3 as the producer of the 2002 remake.

* The song was covered in electro style by Tiga and Zyntherius in 2001.

* Former N- Sync singer JC Chasez featured the song's signature synthesized hook throughout "Come To Me", a track from his 2004 album Schizophrenic, for which he credited Hart as a co-writer.
* In 2006, the song was covered by rap group The Federation with rappers E-40 and Keak Da Sneak, retitled as "I Wear My Stunna Glasses at Night", a reference to the popularity of "Stunna Shades" within the hyphy movement. 2007 saw covers by Dj Size feat. J. Lourenzo and Francis Soto (nu metal version), plus a mashup by UK mashup artist Cheekyboy of Justin Timberlake's Sexyback using elements of this song.
* Divine Brown samples the main riff in her 2008 song Sunglasses, and near the end of the track she says the tag line, "I wear my sunglasses at night". Voodoo & Serano covered "Sunglasses at Night" in 2009.
The song made #50 in VH1's 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs of all Time.

2 In A Room - Somebody In The House Say Yeah! (1988)

2 In A Room was a Dominican hip hop, freestyle music and house music duo, from Washington Heights, New York, which includes rapper Rafael "Dose" Vargas and producer/remixer Roger "Rog Nice" Pauletta, who was replaced by Edwin "Floodlight" Ovalles after 1990. They are best known for their 1990 hit single "Wiggle It". It spent two weeks at #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart (and #3 in the UK Singles Chart, and then crossed over to mainstream radio, and climbed to #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually becoming a gold single. Before that, they were known for a track called "Do What You Want" (1990) that got a lot of club and DJ play in New York and Chicago.

"El Trago (the Drink)" was a #86 Billboard Hot 100 chart entry (the last of their pop hits), but they did chart several more singles on the dance chart through the 1990s.
Their first release in the UK (and the US - on Cutting Records) was "Somebody In The House Say Yeah!" in the late part of 1988. Not as well known and it did not cross over, still it was big with underground house DJ's, particularly ones playing the popular Todd Terry style sound of the time.

Proyecto Uno - Brinca (1991)

Proyecto Uno (English: Project One) is a Dominican-American merenrap group which helped popularize a style of music which blend merengue with rap, techno, dancehall reggae and hip-hop music. The band was founded in New York Citys East Side in 1989 by Nelson Zapata. Originally formed as traditional merengue band, Proyecto Uno received recognition in the 1990s after incorporating modern Afro-American and North American music. The group won a Billboard latin Music Award , an Emmy award, and countless others.
In 1991 this 12" was serviced in the US to DJs and it did well with a variety of mixes, including an underground house (rave) mix that helped it cross over to radio. Call it hip house or latin house, it still moved dancefloors.

Angel Alanis - Do You Like The Way You Feel...(2001)

Based on a brilliant Twin Hype ' For Those Who Like to Groove ' sample and sounding awfully like Adonis ' No Way Back' , this fantastic energetic house packer, produced by Chicago native Angel Alanis, was one of my biggest records for years back in the early 2000's. Released on Alanis' own A Squared Musik Record label, this EP saw a lot of sales and club play from a LOT of world renowned DJs.

Animotion - Obsession (1985)

"Obsession" is a 1985 song recorded by New Wave synth-dance group Animotion. The song hit number six in the United States, and number five in the United Kingdom in early 1985, helped by a distinct video that received heavy rotation on MTV.

"Obsession" is a mainstay on 1980s compilations and is featured in the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as part of the New Wave radio station Wave 103. It has also been used as the theme song for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (aired on NBC) and FashionTelevisionChannel, as well as MTV's House of Style, and it was featured in the 2000 comedy film Lucky Numbers. Various artists have covered the song, including The Azoic in 2004, and the Sugababes, for their album - Taller In More Ways, in 2005. The song has been used as the opening theme for the internationally syndicated Canadian program FT - FashionTelevision since it premiered in 1986. It has recently been featured in the films El Cantante and Adventureland, the TV show Weeds and was featured in the trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine and the movie itself.
It was originally written and recorded as a duet by songwriter Holly Knight and musician Michael Des Barres in 1983, although the recording did not perform well. This version was prominently featured in the 1983 film A Night in Heaven, most notably in a scene in which a male stripper gyrates his crotch in Lesley Ann Warren's face in sync with the rhythm of the song. The song was featured on the film's soundtrack, but did not receive enough attention to warrant much radio play or a place on any Billboard charts.

Eddie Grant - Time Warp (1982)

"Electric Avenue" is a song by Eddy Grant. It was released in 1982, and went on to be very popular, reaching #2 on both US and UK singles charts. It was included in the 1983 album Killer on the Rampage, and has been covered by several other artists since then. The song is named after Electric Avenue, a market street in the Brixton area of London, England. The B-Side to this song is a Non-LP track entitled "Time Warp." While Grant is known for reggae flavored pop hits, Electric Avenue being very well known and a huge worldwide hit, its this disco flavored b-side that makes my lift. Did I say disco ? cuz it is. Sounds nothing like Eddie grant. Shows his range.

The Clash - Rock The Casbah (1982)

Rock the Casbah" is a song by the English punk rock band The Clash. It was released as the third single from their fifth album, Combat Rock. The song reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. (their only top 10 single Stateside) and, along with the track "Mustapha Dance", it also reached number eight on the dance chart. It is the band's highest charting single worldwide.
The song gives a fabulist account of a ban on rock music by the Sharif or King being defied by the population, who proceed to "rock the casbah". The King orders jet fighters to bomb any people in violation of the ban. The pilots ignore the orders, and instead play rock music on their cockpit radios.

The song′s lyrics feature various Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, and Sanskrit loan-words, such as sharif, bedouin, sheikh, kosher, rāga, muezzin, minaret, and casbah.
In 2006, the conservative National Review released their list of the top 50 "Conservative Rock Songs", with "Rock the Casbah" at #20, noting its frequent requests during the Iraq War.Despite, or perhaps because of, its popularity with soldiers during the Gulf War, "Rock the Casbah" was one of the songs deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

In one of the campfire scenes late in the 2007 documentary Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, a Granada friend states that Strummer wept when he heard that the phrase "Rock the Casbah" was written on an American bomb that was to be detonated on Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War.

Abba - The Visitors (1982)

"The Visitors", originally "Den första" (meaning "The First"), was the final single release from Swedish pop group ABBA's studio album of the same name, released in the United States in 1982. The lead vocal was sung by Anni-Frid Lyngstad and its mix of psychedelic, Indian-flavoured verse melody and 1980s synth rock in the chorus, was an unusual and intriguing step for ABBA.
The official stated theme is a protest against the mistreatment of political dissidents in the Soviet Union at the time, as ABBA seemed to input political issues into their lyrics in the final days of the group. That said, Björn deliberately made the lyrics obscure enough to be open to other interpretations.

In 1982, the album The Visitors was banned from the Soviet Union, though it is likely due to the band's participation on the United States Information Agency television special, Let Poland Be Poland, broadcast via satellite around the world on January 31, 1982. The show, which also featured Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Orson Welles, Henry Fonda and U.S. President Ronald Reagan, was a public protest against the then-recent imposition of martial law in Poland.
"The Visitors" was released as the album's second (and final) single in the US instead of "Head Over Heels", which remained as the b-side.

The single peaked just outside of the Top 60 at #63 on the singles chart in the U.S., and a double A-sided "The Visitors" / "When All Is Said and Done" 12" single reached #8 on the Billboard dance chart. The song did not have any success in any other countries.
