Romeo Void - Never Say Never (1981)

One of the best songs of all time in my book , this pounding driving rock/dance (punk?) songs was released in 1982 and became an early favorite on MTV. Fast ,gritty, and hard, and driven by a serious bassline and jagged guitar sound. The bands first release, two years later the San Francisco based band scored a crossover hit with their release 'A Girl In Trouble  (Is A Temporary Thing)'.
The bands popularity was primarily in alternative and college radio, and as a performing act. They recorded for 415/Columbia Records. The original band members met at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Romeo Void was the subject of a minor controversy in 1985 when the band's lyrics proved too offensive and led to the removal of CJSW's rooftop speakers at the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
After the demise of Romeo Void, Debora Iyall, the lead singer and lyricist, released a solo album in 1986 named Strange Language. She eventually put together and sang in the groups Knife in Water and Lower East Venus. John Haines played drums for Pearl Harbor and the Explosions.
The band wrote and recorded four demo tracks in October 1993 (If I Was Your Cat, Stormy Eyes, Two Rivers, and Safe Place), which were sent to Sony Music but never released.

The song was featured in the 1984 film, Reckless, starring Aidan Quinn as a football star and renegade. Quinn's character takes over the school dance's DJ booth to play the single, much to the dismay of all his classmates. A dance sequence ensues with Quinn's character moshing about while a somewhat distraught Daryl Hannah tries to figure out how to dance with him.
In February 2006 Australian electro house group Vandalism released a cover version of the song.
Also female rapper Amanda Blank uses the song's lyrics in her first single, "Might Like You Better".
